Walter Madigan

ORAN - Walter Edward Madigan, 61, of Oran, died June 3, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 24, 1941, in St. Louis, son of the late Edward J. and Maybelle Hefele Madigan. Walter was a retired road grader operator for the Scott County Highway Department in Benton. A member of the Oran Chamber of Commerce, he was a charter member and served on the board of directors in the Oran Optimist Club. Walter was also a volunteer for the Oran Fire Rescue Squad and the Scott County Rural Fire Department.

On Jan. 25, 1975, he married Debra Whorton who survives of the home.

Survivors in addition to his wife include: a son and daughter-in-law, A.J. and Nicole Madigan of Oran; a daughter, Kristal "Midget" Madigan of Oran; three grandchildren, Abigail Madigan, Macey Madigan and Tristen Madigan of Oran; his dear father- and mother-in-law, Aubrey and Peggy Whorton of Florissant; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Darryl and Paula Menzel of Highland, Ill., Bryan and Bonita Boston and Craig and Cheryl Politte of O'Fallon and Ricky and Sally Whorton of Florissant; and by the best friends a man could ever have.

Visitation begins at 3 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Ed Carter will officiate.

Burial will follow in the New Morley Cemetery at Morley.
