Carl Romines

MATTHEWS - Thomas Carl Romines Jr., 89, died at 9 a.m. July 14, 2003, with his family at his side.

Born July 9, 1914, in East Prairie, he was the son of the late Thomas Romines Sr. and Martha Romines Gilpin. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Matthews for many years, where he also served as a deacon. Romines, who served 3-1/2 years with the U.S. Army in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II, retired in 1979 from Inman Freight Co., after 20 years of service.

On Aug. 28, 1945, he married Maxine Montgomery who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Suzann Romines of Matthews and John and Deanna Romines of Greenville, N.C.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kim and Joe Mooney and Carla Romines Filowiak of Sikeston; one special grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Matt and Carrie Romines of Pontotoc, Miss.; and three stepgrandsons, three stepgranddaughters, six stepgreat-grandsons and three stepgreat-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Evan Gilpin; and a stepbrother, Virgil Gilpin.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Caston Counts, pastor of the First Christian Church in Matthews and Jimmy Colvett, minister of the Church of Christ in Matthews, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
