BENTON - Orland J. Bollinger Sr., 87, died at 3:45 p.m. Jan. 3, 2004, at his son's home in Benton.

Born July 4, 1916, at Benton, son of the late Theodore and Rosa Vogel Bollinger, he was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church. A lifelong resident of Benton, he began working for Harris Rogers at the Scott County Abstract Co. in 1945. In 1954, he and his brother-in-law, E.R. Tirmenstein, purchased the company. His son, Jim Bollinger, later joined the firm and worked with him until the company was sold to his niece and her husband, Carol and Tom Gilmore. The firm is now called the SEMO Title Co. in Sikeston. He retired in 1995 after working 50 years in the title business. He served four years with the U.S. Air Force.

On Aug. 31, 1941, at Benton, he married Mary Jane Brock who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Orland Jim and Linda Bollinger Jr. of Benton; one sister, Berniece Buck of Sikeston; and one grandson, O.J. Bollinger III of Benton.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Benton, where parish prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Denis Catholic Church with the Rev. Normand Varone, officiating.

VFW Post 3838 will conduct graveside military rites at the St. Denis Church Cemetery.
