KELSO - Jesse Eugene Strickland, 76, died at 2:39 a.m. Aug. 15, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Feb. 11, 1928, in Chicago, son of the late Luther Eugene and Hilda Mae McCellvin Strickland, he was a truck driver for Arkansas Best Freight from 1956-93. A yeoman third class with the U.S. Navy in World War II, he was a member of the Commerce Baptist Church. He was also a member of Spring Creek (La.) Masonic Lodge 184 and Jackson (Miss.) Scottish Rite.
On May 8, 1960, in Jackson, Miss., he married Elizabeth H. Slawson who preceded him in death on May 22, 2003.
Survivors include: four sons, Rocky Strickland of Kentwood, La., Keith Strickland of Baton Rouge, La., Shannon Strickland of Delta and Kirk Strickland of Jackson, Mo.; one daughter, Dawn Holder of Scott City; three sisters, Donnie Mae Givens and Diane Buckley of Kentwood and Trenie Faye Britton of Jackson, Miss.; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, where services will be conducted at 7 p.m. The Rev. David Thompson will officiate.
Burial will be conducted Thursday at the East Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Kentwood.
