Shannon Tarkington

BERNIE - Shannon Dale Tarkington II, 17, died Aug. 24, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born April 7, 1986, in Cape Girardeau, he was the son of Shannon Dale Tarkington I of Vandalia, Ill., and Crendy Sue Young Tarkington of Bernie. A junior at Bernie High School, he was president of his class, played basketball and was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, FFA, the Bernie High School Band and the Student Council. Also a member of the Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Poplar Bluff, he served on the Youth Leadership Council and had made several mission trips to Mexico and Mississippi. Tarkington was also a business owner of Tri-State Landscaping in Bernie.

Survivors in addition to his parents include: one half brother, Cole Tarkington of Vandalia; one half sister, Katie Tarkington of Vandalia; his maternal grandparents, Danny and Linda Young of Bernie; paternal grandparents, Jerry Tarkington of Gideon and Sandy Tarkington of St. Louis; and his paternal great-grandmother, Florence Kulik of St. Louis.

Visitation is from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Brian Sharp will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
