SIKESTON - Morris Jones, 79, died Jan. 17, 2004, at his home in Sikeston. Born March 22, 1925, in Sikeston to the late Harry and Opal Griggs Jones, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the Bellawood aircraft carrier during World War II and was a member of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church. SIKESTON - Morris Jones, 79, died Jan. 17, 2004, at his home in Sikeston.

Born March 22, 1925, in Sikeston to the late Harry and Opal Griggs Jones, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the Bellawood aircraft carrier during World War II and was a member of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church. He worked as a local truck driver in St. Louis and Kansas City before retiring.

On Jan. 7, 1951, in Piggott, Ark., he married Della M. Eskew, who preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 1994.

One half brother, Randy Jones, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include: one brother, Robert Jones of Independence; one stepbrother, Jack Grossbeck of Sikeston; and two cousins, Loretta Davis of Florissant and Frances Jones of St. Charles.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday until time for services at 11 p.m. at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Burial will follow in the Blodgett Cemetery.
