SIKESTON - W.P. Wilkerson presented the American Legion Award to outstanding students based on scholarship, general good character and citizenship. Those named were: Frank Stevens, Edwin Webster and Carolyn Weltecke. The American Legion Auxiliary History Award for the best student in American history went to Louise Skelton.

SIKESTON - For the first time since the Planters Bank was established eight years ago, just about all the bank personnel, with their wives or husbands, gathered for a "family" dinner party at the country club.

SIKESTON - Ben's will soon open its doors at 806 S. Kingshighway next to the Accent Shop. The newly-expanded traditional clothing store will include an expanded women's department four times the size of the women's department of the Ben's facility in the mall.

EAST PRAIRIE - The city council agreed to pursue the goal of having representation from their city on the Mississippi County Port Authority.

SIKESTON - The top 10 members of the Kelly High School class of 1993 are Leslie Graham, valedictorian; Michelle Stuckey, salutatorian; and Diane Klueppel, Jennifer Halter, Jennifer Felter, Sara Lambert, Susan Housman, Kimberly Burford, Trina Dirnberger and Erika Rose.

BELL CITY - Clay Dover, son of Johnny and Kay Dover, was chosen King of the Little Mr. and Miss Bell City Pageant. First alternate was Brian Ramsey and second alternate was Timothy Abner. Selected as queen was Amanda Abner, daughter of Tim and Kandy Abner, and first alternate was Rachel Spears, daughter of Brad and Rosie Spears.
