Garfield Montgomery

DEXTER - Garfield Montgomery, 81, died March 30, 2002, at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Sept. 2, 1920, at Bernie, son of the late John Silas and Parilee King Montgomery, he was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ. A resident of Dexter, he was a World War II veteran and was employed in farming.

On Feb. 15, 1941, in Clarkton, he married Frances "Pete" Reed, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2000.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Dean Montgomery; and one sister, Lola Young.

Survivors include: three sons, Phillip Montgomery, David Montgomery and Barry Montgomery of Dexter; seven brothers, Hollas Montgomery, Breman Montgomery and Sam Montgomery of Dexter, Leon Montgomery of Oxnard, Calif., Bob Montgomery of Kennett, Bill Montgomery of Paducah, Ky., and Paul Montgomery of the state of North Carolina; one sister, JoAnn Golden of Malden; and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Dale Grissom will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
