SIKESTON - The interior of the Sikeston Public Library has been given a thorough cleaning and the Venetian shades made "practically new." The woodwork has been cleaned, the floors waxed and other usual spring housecleaning done under the supervision of Mrs. C.D. Matthews Jr., chairman of the house committee. The basement was flooded during the heavy rains Monday damaging the expensive floor coverings and causing other damage to the furnishings.
BLOOMFIELD - The Circuit Court of Stoddard County will operate on Central Standard Time during the summer months according to an announcement made by Circuit Clerk Bill Blue. The decision of the court to remain in Standard Time was made due to the many conflicts involved in Daylight Savings Time. All regular court sessions will begin according to Standard time.
SIKESTON - Construction on the roads leading to the new 88,287-square-
foot Sikeston Middle School facility was under way this morning. Dr. Sam Harbin, superintendent of schools, stated that due to the incompletion of the building and roadway it looks doubtful at this time that students will be able to acquaint themselves with the facility this school year as administration had previously planned. He said that supplies and furnishings will be readied over the summer months so that the facility will be put into operation for the 1985-86 school year.
PORTAGEVILLE - During the next two weeks, workers will put the finishing touches on the interior of the newly renovated New Madrid County Library. New shelving will be installed and 12,000 volumes moved and put into place. New Madrid County Library Director Marshall Dial said he is looking forward to the work which will complete efforts to return the library to its former building which was damaged by fire some two years earlier.

SIKESTON - The 18th Annual Bridge Marathon that began in January has ended. Proceeds from the event, a check for $1,567.40 was presented to Bill Sikes for Heritage House. Winners of the daytime marathon were Peggy Sadler and Jeannine Riley. The nighttime marathon was won by Sue and Fielding Potashnick.
