Larry McGowan

PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo. - John Larry McGowan, 67, formerly of Dexter, Mo., died March 2, 2002, at the New Mercy Medical Center in Durango.

Born Dec. 21, 1934, at Rolla, son of Lillie Swanson McGowan of Buffalo, Mo., and the late John Leonard McGowan, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pagosa Springs and former member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter. He retired as a district sales manager for Shelter Insurance in Southeast Missouri.

On July 3, 1958, at El Paso, Texas, he married Ada Stephens who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons, John Larry McGowan Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., and James Stephen McGowan of Bedford, Texas; one daughter, Shannon McGowan Powers of Camp Hill, Pa.; two brothers, Keith McGowan of Jefferson City, Mo., and Pat McGowan of Bolivar, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Wayne Dismuke and the Rev. Dan Sanders will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
