CAPE GIRARDEAU - Mary Gladys Wise, 89, died at 1:35 p.m. Aug. 28, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Born Aug. 6, 1913, in Blytheville, Ark., daughter of the late Robert H. and Vergie Kays Wise, she was of the Baptist belief. A graduate of Southeast Missouri State College, she served as elementary school principal in the Illmo-Scott City School District from 1937-43. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a link instrument trainer in Atlanta, Ga., during World War II. Following her naval career, she served with the U.S. Civil Service in Portland, Ore., and returned to Cape Girardeau in 1992.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter Wise, Jack Wise, Eugene Wise, Dillard Wise and Leslie Wise.

Survivors include: one sister, Bobbie M. Stallings of rural Charleston; two nieces, Dixie Harmon of St. Louis and Kaye Stallings of Cape Girardeau; two nephews, Paul Wayne Stallings of Charleston and Mike Stallings of Sikeston; and one great-nephew, Christian Stallings of Sikeston.

No visitation or funeral services are scheduled.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston. The Rev. Gerald Collier, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
