Two men arrested for armed robbery
NEW MADRID - Two men were taken in custody early Sunday morning in connection with an armed robbery.
New Madrid Police Chief Claude McFerren reported that about 1 a.m. Sunday, officers were called to a residence on Tennessee Street. The victims told officers someone knocked at their door, requesting help. When the victims opened the door, two masked men barged in with a gun and demanded money.
Officers began searching the area and spotted the two men. Following a short foot chase one man was apprehended and the second man taken into custody a short time later.
Arraigned in Division II of New Madrid County Circuit Court on charges of first degree burglary and armed criminal action were Randy Jackson, 21, and Ronnie Green, 19, of New Madrid.
They are being held in the New Madrid County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
Also reported Sunday was a break-in at Johnson's Restaurant on Main Street. Owner Bobby Johnson reported the front glass door of the business was broken and approximately $60 in change was taken and several doughnuts were eaten.
A burglary on Feb. 25 at the Ralph Anderson Lumber Co. is under investigation. A window was broken to give access to the office and a computer with monitor, 21-inch television and a FAX machine were reported taken.
