ORAN - The Sikeston girls basketball team fell to 8-12 on the season with a 44-42 overtime road loss to Oran on Wednesday.
Sikeston's Allison Blurton tied the game on a driving layup with four seconds in regulation to force overtime.
Oran never trailed after that as they managed a 44-39 lead. Blurton hit a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to reach the final margin.
Oran's Tiffany Glastetter scored six of her team-high 13 points in the overtime period.
Oran (6-6) led through most of the game, taking a 6-0 edge after one quarter and a 17-10 halftime lead.
"This is a real nice win," said Oran coach Larry Boshell. "We came out and played real well defensively in the first quarter, but we couldn't score. They were big inside and that's where we like to push the ball."
Sikeston got back in the game in the third quarter using an effective full-court press.
The Lady Bulldogs took their first lead of the game on two Amber Minner free throws with 34 seconds in the period.
The Lady Bulldogs' 25-24 lead after three quarters was their only lead of the game.
"We didn't come out on fire like we did against Twin Rivers," said Sikeston coach Tiffany King. "Our spark just wasn't there. Not too many times are we held to zero points in the first quarter. That just got the girls down. I told them to be ready and not take Oran lightly but we came out sluggish tonight.
"The girls came back and fought hard. They had the intensity towards the end but we couldn't pull it off. We need to forget about this game and move on."
Oran managed a five-point lead late in the fourth quarter until Sikeston rallied again.
Freshman Martika Davis hit two free throws and freshman Jordi Ferrell nailed a 3-pointer from the left corner to tie the game with 34 seconds left.
After Oran's Amanda Eftink scored an open layup on a press break, Sikeston called timeout to set up a final play.
Blurton took it down the right baseline and scored the tying layup with four seconds left to force the overtime.
Oran managed a quick lead in overtime behind Glastetter's inside play.
"She started last year and she ended up blowing out her knee and had to have surgery," said Boshell. "She's finally starting to get back in her groove. She does a good job in the post. She makes good moves and she can score down there. That gives us three quality post players."
Glastetter scored with eight seconds left to give Oran a 44-39 lead. Blurton hit a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to reach the final margin.
Sikeston got a game-high 14 points and 15 rebounds from junior Robyn Morris.
"Robyn's been playing pretty well for us," said King. "Being off for two weeks hurt her, she's not in the physical shape she'd like to be in but she gives it her all when she's in there."
Oran (6-6) will play at Charleston today at 6 p.m. Sikeston (8-12) will host Scott City tonight at 6 p.m.
