SIKESTON - Mrs. H.E. Dudley, who came from Crossville, Tenn., last week and Mrs. Fred Hetlage of Kewanee left Sunday for Los Angeles, Calif., to attend the commencement of the University of Southern California May 23, when Mrs. Dudley's daughter, Helen Vera, will receive a bachelor of science degree.

SIKESTON - Norman Bennett, commander of the Sikeston VFW Post, has been appointed national aide-de-camp to the commander-in-chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Byron B. Gentry.

SIKESTON - Terry Wood received the C.L. Blanton Journalism Award this morning from Homer Stallings, publisher of The Daily Standard, founded by C.L. Blanton.

SIKESTON - Several boys from East Prairie, Sikeston, New Madrid and Morehouse were recently awarded the Arrow of Light, Cub Scouting's highest award. The awards were presented at Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church to: Mica Haddock, Wesley Runnels, Conn Davis, Blake Heath, Adrian Porter, Robby Sumner, James Dixon, Cory Taylor, Joey Looney, Cory Welker, Sean Taylor, Nathan Beck, Justin Wibbenmeyer, Joshua Adkinson, Benjamin Bowden, Travis Hogan, Pete Friese, Justin Robinson, Ryan Lewis, Tyler Presley, Chris Forbis, Brooks Ziegenhorn, Austin Cox, Jeff Heacox, Chad Rhynerson and Jason Bickerstaff.


CHARLESTON - Charleston Mayor Fred Gordon signed a proclamation designating May 23-29 as Emergency Medical Services Week, during which personnel from the Mississippi County Ambulance Service will perform services, such as blood pressure testing for resident.
