SIKESTON - Pvt. James A. Billington, 32, was seriously wounded in action in Belgium on Dec. 27. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Billington were notified by the War Department last week.

SIKESTON - Button up your overcoat and keep those long woolies handy - there are going to be six more weeks of winter. That's the prediction of Pennsylvania's two famous furry forecasters who poked their weary heads from their cold holes on opposite ends of the state at daylight yesterday, say their shadows and, true to tradition, scooted right back in to enjoy the underground warmth until spring beckons.

SIKESTON - Tom DeReign of Sikeston has returned from the national Monopoly tournament in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he barely missed the finals and is looking forward to the upcoming local competition. The first round of the local 1985 event will be Feb. 9. DeReign was eligible to attend this tournament because he was the winner of the local and state Monopoly tournament.

MORLEY - The local chapter of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a non-profit weight-loss support group with more than 300,000 members worldwide, will hold an open house from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday at the Community Building. Women, men, teens and pre-teens interested in losing weight are invited to attend. The open house is free.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Kindergarten Center recently announced the Best Citizens for January. They include: Casey Parr, Sarah McDowell, Courtney Sloan, Ke'Rajia Williamson, Latasha Fletcher, Ryan Perry, Zachary Enos and Whitney Wakeham.
