Charles Cunningham

CHAFFEE - Charles Paul Cunningham, 81, died April 10, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Nov. 8, 1920, in Chaffee, son of the late Charles Henry and Edith Lou Harrell Cunningham, he retired as the Chaffee city collector, after 34 years of service. A member of the first United Methodist Church in Chaffee, he was baptized on April 14, 1946. Charles was the director of the M.Y.F. for many years. He taught Sunday School and sang in the First United Methodist Church choir. He also assisted the church by helping to serve communion, was a chairman of the church board, was a Trustee Chairman and a member of the Parish Relations Committee.

Charles was the secretary of the Chaffee R-2 School board for 28 years.

He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 615 and Chapter 418 Order of the Eastern Star, both in Chaffee, and the Valley of St. Louis Scottish Rite.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Survivors include: four nephews, Tom Cunningham of Chaffee, Steve Cunningham of Plano, Texas, and John Cunningham and Joe Cunningham of Germantown, Tenn.; two nieces, Linda Wessel of Chaffee and Charlene Kraft of Bartlett, Tenn.; and 13 great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Chaffee, where Masonic rites are scheduled for 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Richard Combs and the Rev. Marty Blakey officiating.

Burial will follow in Union Park Cemetery.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel of Chaffee is in charge of arrangements.
