The spotlight will fall on the Sikeston Area Higher Education Center Saturday when school officials there host a dinner and auction to raise funds for student scholarships. The 6 p.m. dinner at the Ramada Inn will feature guest speaker Charles Stamp Jr., a former Sikeston resident who returns to address the gathering.

SAHEC has become an amazing asset to our community. It provides an essential service and education outlet that has been needed here for decades. For those who have not yet visited the Center, you're missing out.

Saturday's event will raise money to fund scholarship for area students in need of financial assistance. But it will also shine a bright spotlight on the accomplishments of the Center and the potential for the future. It should be an event worth attending.

A number of area businesses have already donated funds for scholarships. They will be recognized and honored Saturday as well. All in all it promises to be an event of merit.

Currently nearly 1,000 students attend SAHEC and the prospects for the future are bright. The scholarship funds raised Saturday will add to the student population and help the Center grow and prosper for years to come. SAHEC is a source of great community pride. Saturday's spotlight will focus attention on one of Sikeston's newest and greatest assets. What a wonderful evening it should be.
