ESSEX - Russell Simpson, 90, died April 9, 2002, at his home.

Born Feb. 19, 1912, in Essex, son of the late Daniel and Alice Trotter Simpson, he lived in Weiner, Ark., for many years before moving to Essex in 1980. He was a member of the Cooper and Haynes General Baptist Church in Weiner.

On Sept. 12, 1936, in Lake City, Ark., he married Cloia Simpson who preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 2001.

Survivors include: one daughter, Norma Jean Burns of Essex; one sister, Ruby Louis of Weiner; two grandchildren, Jerry Triplett Jr. of Dexter and Terry Triplett Adkins of Essex; two great-granddaughters, Shonitie Adkins of Essex and Jessica Triplett of Dexter; and one great-great grandson, Sloan Adkins of Essex.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Simpson, Charley Simpson and Floyd Simpson; five sisters, Louise Craft, Claudy Simpson, Lilly Mae Simpson, Lovie Simpson and Maudy Simpson; and one half brother, Walter Herring.

Graveside services were conducted at 1 p.m. today at the Essex Cemetery with the Rev. Ernie Rogers of Poplar Bluff, officiating.

Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter was in charge of arrangements.
