Chaffee holds off Scott City

CHAFFEE - The Chaffee Red Devils baseball team posted a 6-4 victory against Scott City on Monday.

The Red Devils led 6-1 heading into the seventh inning but the Rams rallied to cut the lead to 6-4.

Chase Eskew relieved Zac Horman and recorded the final two outs to pick up the save.

Horman pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs off five hits and five walks with three strikeouts to pick up the win.

"I thought about pulling him earlier and probably should've in hindsight," said Chaffee head coach Brian Horrell. "They had their seven, eight and nine hitters up and I thought he could get them. But he got a little tired and I had to put in Chase to finish the job."

Chaffee (5-2, 3-2 SEMO) was led by James Reischman, who went 2-3 with a double and a stolen base, and Derek Uhrhan, who went 2-3 with a triple and two RBIs.

Others were Horrell (1-2), Brent Thomason (1-3, 2B) and Brandon Davis (1-3, 2 RBIs).

The Red Devils tallied four runs in the fourth inning behind some shaky Rams defense.

"We were very fortunate to get four runs in that inning, thanks to a couple of errors and some lucky breaks," said Horrell.

Chaffee will host Dexter on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
