POPLAR BLUFF - Mrs. David E. Blanton and son visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George McClure Hearne of Poplar Bluff.

DEXTER - Fire of undetermined origin swept through two buildings of Dexter's downtown district Sunday afternoon, causing a loss estimated at $100,000. Totally destroyed was a building owned by Herb Thrower of Dexter and occupied by the Rendleman Motor Co., agents for Chrysler and Plymouth .

SIKESTON - It's snowing again and although his efforts early this morning may have been somewhat fruitless, James Scott, an employee of Missouri Delta Community Hospital, weathered the cold, wet weather and shoveled snow. By mid-morning there was an accumulation of three inches, with more coming down.

CHARLESTON - During the final five minutes of Tuesday's final game, Charleston went to its control-type maneuvers. Only this time there was a big surprise. The Blue Jays had rested in a zone defense for several minutes and - as usual - the time for action was at hand. But instead of the scorching defensive pressure and up-tempo offense that has accompanied Charleston's late surges all season, things were slowed down. The Blue Jays went to a spread offense and a half-court defense and downed a surprised Jackson team for the second time this season, 55-41.


SIKESTON - Students from Lee Hunter Elementary School celebrated their 100th day of school Wednesday. The faculty asked each student to bring 100 pieces of something to school. Many brought items such as baseball cards, cotton balls, candy and diapers.
