ORAN - The Oran Lady Eagles softball team picked up its first win of the season with a 17-7 victory over Oak Ridge in six innings on Thursday.

Oran freshman Jamie Pobst picked up the win on the mound, allowing five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

Oran's Tori St. Cin led the Lady Eagles at the plate, going 2-2 with four runs, an RBI and three stolen bases.

Others were Theresa Hodges (1-2, 3B, 2 RBIs, 4 runs), Courtney Fowler (1-2, SB, 2B, 2 RBIs), Erica Dirnberger (1-5, 3 RBIs) and Ashley Dirnberger (1-4, 2 SB, 2 RBIs).

"Early in the year we're hitting the ball really well considering we haven't been on the field much," said Oran head coach Travis Spane. "Jamie Pobst threw really well for her first game."

Ruch had a two-run homer for Oak Ridge. Ponder was the losing pitcher.

Oran (1-0-1) will play at Scott City next Thursday at 4 p.m.

CHAFFEE - The Chaffee Lady Red Devils defeated Meadow Heights on Thursday by the 10-run rule in five innings in its season opener.

Chaffee's Shannon Hampton picked up the win, going all five innings and allowing two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

Ashley Graham led the Red Devils on offense, going 3-3 with two RBIs. Others were Callie Meyr (2-3, RBI), Mallory Keefer (2-4, 2 RBIs), Hampton (1-3, 2 RBIs) and Molly Fowler (1-3, RBI).

"Going into game we didn't know what to expect because it's been so wet with the weather," said Chaffee head coach Mark Devenport. "We've only been on the field five times this spring. Considering the lack of practice we were pretty sharp. Shannon pitched well and we had a good effort."

Chaffee will play at Dexter on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
