BENTON - Don't invite the three Scott County commissioners and Missouri State Auditor Margaret Kelly to the same dinner party. There is some bad blood between Benton and Jefferson City. A press release issued by Kelly's office, concerning an audit of Scott County, contains suggestions that irritate Presiding Commissioner Durward Dover. "No money was improperly used," he said at Thursday's regular commission meeting. "There has been no embezzlement." Kelly's audit and the press release don't use the word "embezzle," but it is suggested that Scott County collected property taxes of $110,272 in excess of allowable levels in the years 1988, 1989 and 1990.
