CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Sikeston girls soccer team fell to Cape Central by a 2-0 score on Wednesday night.
Mallory Wilson scored the Lady Tigers' first goal at the 10:00 mark on an assist from Chelsea Oliver. Oliver then scored on an assist from Megan McDonald at the 18:00.
But the Lady Bulldogs shut Cape Central out from there. But Sikeston coach Derrick Long said it was an improvement from a 9-0 defeat earlier in the year.
"They got a couple quick ones in the first 20 minutes but we shut them down after that," said Long.
"I was pretty happy with the way we played. We had three quality shots that had chances to go in, but anytime you go there and hold them for scoreless for 60 minutes, that's pretty good defense for us."
Audra Wooley got 22 saves for Sikeston, which was out-shot 24-15.
Cape Central's Chelsea Burns had the shutout.
"Audra Wooley made some great saves," said Long. "Molly Brinkmeyer and Caroline McClung seemed to control the middle of the field for us," said Long.
"Anytime we can do that, it gives our forwards an opportunity to score. It was the most complete team game we've played all year."
Sikeston (2-13) will host Fredericktown today at 4 p.m.
The Sikeston junior varsity lost 5-0.
