Bake Baker

SCOTT CITY - Eugene Victor "Bake" Baker, 95, formerly of Thebes, Ill., died at 6:40 a.m. June 24, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born June 7, 1907, in Blodgett, son of the late Wood E. and Cora McCollum Baker, he was a member of Fathers Arms Fellowship. He retired as an inspector with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, after 33 years of service, during which he had worked on the flood wall at Cape Girardeau. After retiring, he worked for Bakers Finer Foods.

On Nov. 28, 1929, in Benton, he married Elsie Mae Waddell who preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 1990.

He later married Margaret Keating and she also preceded him in death.

Survivors include: two sons, Alvie G. Baker of Scott City and Jimmie V. Baker of McClure, Ill.; one daughter, Sis Phillips of East Cape Girardeau, Ill.; one stepson, Bobby Baker of St. Charles; two stepdaughters, Brenda Rector and Barbara Harris of St. Charles; and six grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Kenny Strong and the Rev. Jack Owens will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes.
