SIKESTON -- Area residents receiving phone solicitations for ads to be featured in a map of Sikeston and parts of Scott County are urged to report the information immediately.
According to Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Missy Marshall, the Chamber was contacted by a Chamber member concerning a sales phone call they received from individuals stating they are selling ads for maps displaying Sikeston and parts of Scott County.
"The salesperson did not identify themselves but stated they were selling ads for a map displaying the city of Sikeston on one side and Scott County on the other," Marshall explained.
"When questioned further, they fraudulently stated they had talked to Missy Marshall at the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce and Rita Milam at the Scott Count Courthouse about the project."
However, neither Marshall nor Milam have been contacted about this project, Marshall confirmed Wednesday.
"The Sikeston Chamber does produce a map approximately every 18 months. Moll Printing is the vendor for the project. The (SACC) map is for Sikeston/Miner and includes Matthews, Morley, Morehouse and Bertrand," Marshall clarified.
Anyone contacted by a company concerning a Sikeston/Scott County map should contact the SACC office with the company information at (573) 471-2498.
