Alvis Newton

MURRAY, Ky. - Alvis Hubbard Newton, 87, formerly of East Prairie, Mo., died at 4:06 p.m. Nov. 14, 2003, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital.

Born March 5, 1916, in Mississippi County, Mo., son of the late William Allen and Alcenia Paralee Kelly Newton, he lived in Mississippi County most of his life where he retired as a building contractor. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Prairie and lived in Murray since 1978.

On Sept. 25, 1939, he married Ella Wilson who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Larry D. Newton of St. Clair, Mich.; two daughters, Dorothy Higgerson and Christy Lynn Newton of Murray; one sister, Edith Blumenberg of Wright City, Mo.; and three grandsons, Mark Higgerson, Franklin Doyle Higgerson and Matthew Higgerson of Murray.

One daughter, Lawanda Sue Newton, preceded him in death.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday. Steve Stevens of the Promise of Hope Church in Murray will officiate.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston, Mo.
