Dayton Whitehead

BERNIE - Dayton Whitehead, 82, died Aug. 22, 2002, at the John J. Pershing Veterans Administration Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Born July 17, 1920, at Bernie, son of the late William and Suda Crump Whitehead, he was a carpenter and of the Baptist belief.

On May 19, 1947, at Piggott, Ark., he married Lura Imogene Boyd who preceded him in death on May 15, 2001.

Survivors include: one son, Bobby Whitehead of Bernie; two daughters, Sharon Stevens and Derretta Patrick of Bernie; one brother, Vernis Whitehead of Metamora, Mich.; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. today until service time at 2 p.m. at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Dale Hartle will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Smith-Stevenson Cemetery in rural Dexter.
