Andrew Hill
SIKESTON - Andrew Woodrow "Andy" Hill, 86, died at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 22, 2002, at the Christian Health Care Center in Springfield.
Born May 20, 1916, at Charleston, son of the late Andrew Benjamin and Julia Links Hill, he served with the Fifth Army, 85th Division, 337 Infantry, Company E in the European Theater in Italy during World War II. He retired from the Grant Oil Company to his family farm at Benton.
On Dec. 24, 1938, he married Ida Louise Cravens who preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 1996.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Andy J. and Judy Hill of Benton and Richard L. and Mary Hill of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one daughter, Linda Hill Kinsey of Lubbock, Texas; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. Sunday until service time at 2 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. The Rev. Brian Smith will officiate.
The New Madrid American Legion Honor Guard will conduct graveside military rites at the Sikeston City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Andrew J. Hill Jr., Matthew Hill, Richmond Hill, Austin Hill, Daniel Hill, Artie Baker and Colton Baker.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Gene Crenshaw, Herbert Hasty, Joe Childress, Hubert "Kojac" Alred, Keith Conrad, Clyde Nichols, R.L. Richards, David O'Neal and Balas Singletery.
