HOWARDSVILLE - George Thurman, 76, died June 27, 2002, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Nov. 14, 1925, in Caruthersville, son of the late George and Millie Harris Thurman Sr., he was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.

Survivors include: two daughters, Alice Clark of Chicago and Joyce Howard of Blytheville, Ark.; one son, Curtis Thurman of Chicago; three stepdaughters, Ada Payton of Chicago, Delores Robertson of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Ora Lee Johnson of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one sister, Aline Brimlett of Blytheville; two special friends, Cora Warren of Blytheville and Effie Pollard of Howardsville; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Willie C. Thurman and Leroy Thurman, preceded him in death.

Military graveside services given by American Legion Post 595 were conducted at noon today at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid. The Rev. Billy Ray Williams of Howardsville officiated.

Burial followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
