Nettie Patterson

NEW MADRID -- Nettie Patterson, 64, died July 2, 2002, at the Beverly Healthcare facility in New Madrid.

Born April 2, 1938, in Dundee, Miss., daughter of the late Wilson and Olivia Cook Valentine, she was a member of the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church of New Madrid and was a license practical nurse for over 20 years having been employed with several healthcare facilities in the area.

She was married to James "Jay" Patterson who preceded her in death in 1986.

To this union, three children were born: Patrick Patterson, Anita Patterson and Sheila Patterson of Atlanta.

She also inherited through this union, five grandchildren: James Patterson Jr. and Charles Herron of Decatur, Ill., Willie Patterson of Aurora, Ill., Eva Murray of Carbondale, Ill. and Ramona Hughes of New Madrid.

Other survivors include of host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid.

Service is scheduled for noon Saturday at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Leotis Akins officiating.

Burial will follow at the Sandhill Cemetery in New Madrid.
