Norma Skaggs
EAST PRAIRIE - Norma Lee Skaggs, 64, died June 18, 2002, at her home.
Born Aug. 20, 1937, at Kaskaskia Island, Ill., daughter of the late Floyd H. and Bernice Nelson Roderique, she lived in Mississippi County most of her life and was a member of the First Church of God in East Prairie. She served as deputy assessor for Mississippi County from Dec. 1, 1976, to January 1997. She was then appointed assessor, a position she held until September 1997 and continued service as a consultant to the assessor's office until retiring in 1998.
On Oct. 23, 1958, she married Billy L. Skaggs who preceded her in death on March 22, 1996.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, John and Sherry Skaggs of Jonesboro, Ill.; two brothers, Kenneth Roderique of Festus and Floyd H. Roderique Jr. of Hillsboro; three sisters, Rose Marie Meyer of Herculaneum and Connie Faye Walls and Jackie Boyer of Festus; two grandchildren, Matthew VonBehren of St. Louis and Rachel VonBehren of East Prairie; two stepgrandchildren, Tamatha Gottschall of Jonesboro and Jimmy Gottschall of Anna, Ill.; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two daughters, Dixie VonBehren and Lynn R. Skaggs; one stepson, Vernon L. Skaggs; and three brothers and three sisters.
Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday with Martin Lucas, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.
