SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Quinn came to Sikeston Wednesday to make their home. Quinn is connected with the American Telephone and Telegraph Co., now laying and underground cable through Southeast Missouri.

BLOOMFIELD - Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Newcomber will celebrate the 72nd wedding anniversary by entertaining a few friends at their home Sunday from 2-4:30 p.m. The couple grew up together in Stoddard County.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Post Office will begin six-day delivery of parcel post probably within the next few weeks. Six-day deliveries instead of five was ordered for 5,000 cities.

SIKESTON - The Missouri Highway Patrol brought in a search helicopter from Troop D headquarters in Springfield to look for a man and woman suspected of auto theft, burglary and stealing. The two have been on the run since Tuesday. Officers from Southeast Missouri concentrated the hunt Wednesday around two cornfields near Vanduser.

SIKESTON - Going to the Outback will be a new experience for three Sikeston students. They are part of the People to People Student Ambassador Program going to Australia for three weeks. Ninth graders, Jessica Ham and Gabe Marshall and eighth grader, Mary Mann, are part of a group of 33 students and a chaperone who will leave on the 15-hour flight exchange. Mark Schuchart, a junior at Sikeston Senior High School, participated in the People to People exchange in June.
MINER - With tourism tax funds ready for use, the Miner Board of Alderman discussed a convention center/park complex that is still in the "what-if" stage. Following a request by the city, Bob Hahn of Mid-America Hotels spoke about such a convention center/park project. The matter was discussed several months ago but has sat on the back burner. Mayor Betty Barnes said she wanted to revive the issue from the beginning now that there were two new aldermen on the board.
