SIKESTON - The Sikeston Little Theater opens its 45th season with a production of "Steel Magnolias."

Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13, 14 and 15 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Albritton-Mayer Cultural Center, 506 S. Kingshighway. Advance tickets are $6 each and are currently on sale at Collins Music in Sikeston.

"Steel Magnolias" is a comedy with a dramatic turn and features a cast of six women. The cast includes Jennifer Chessor, Heather Palmer, Laura Hendley, and Hope Terrell of Sikeston, Lori Brotherton of New Madrid, and Amber Holman of Cairo, Il. The production is directed by Mike Marsh, with Dianne Jarvis serving as assistant director.

"So many people have told me 'Steel Magnolias' is one of their all-time favorite movies," said Marsh. "And they've all been surprised when I tell them about the stage play -- that there are no men in the cast and the entire play is set in Truvy's beauty shop. The play is just as funny and emotional as the movie, but it is an entirely different experience.

"I can't say enough about how wonderful these ladies have been to work with," Marsh continued. "They have worked so hard and are so very, very good. I think everyone is in for quite a treat."

Any tickets remaining will be available at the door prior to the performances.
