Lucy Evans
EAST PRAIRIE - Lucy Ann Evans, 69, died at 2:23 a.m. Dec. 18, 2003, at Baptist Memorial East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born May 25, 1934, at East Prairie, daughter of the late M.H. and Edith Hankins Bennett, she lived in Truman, Ark., from 1937-1954 and graduated in 1954 from Truman High School. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in East Prairie and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sikeston.
Her first husband, Elvis L. "Opie" Newton, preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1995. She was preceded in death by her second husband, James Larry Evans, on Feb. 28, 2001.
Survivors include: one son, Tim Newton of East Prairie; one daughter, Cherry Mansfield of East Prairie; one brother, George Bennett of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Betty Funk of East Prairie; and five grandchildren, Joshua Newton, Jacob Newton, Anthony Mansfield, Gabrielle Newton and Payton Terry of East Prairie; and several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers and five sisters also preceded her in death.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home, where Eastern Star rites are set for 7 p.m.
Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Tom Snavely officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sikeston City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Danny Bright, Lee Bright, David Terry Jr., Melvin Bennett, Tony Higgins and Jessie Wasson.
