SIKESTON - A.C. "Jr." Thrower, 93, passed away April 29, 2007, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Sept. 13, 1913, in Advance, son of the late William L. and Marie Proffer Thrower, he had worked for the International Shoe Factory for 43 years. He and his late wife, Mildred, owned and operated Thrower Shoe Repair and Shoes for 33 years.

He was a member of the Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston, a 50-year member of the Sikeston Masonic Lodge No. 310 and a Royal Arch mason. He served in the 140th Infantry of the Missouri National Guard.

On Aug. 19, 1934, in Blytheville, Ark., he married Mildred Baker who preceded him in death on March 21, 2002.

The oldest of nine children, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Marion H. Thrower, William L. Thrower, Canto S. Thrower and Simon R. Thrower; and two sisters, Ruth Smith and Margaret Smith. Also preceding him in death were two grandchildren, Timothy Alan Thrower and Shawna Lee Thrower, and one great-grandchild, Madaline Walstrom.

He is survived by: one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John Newman of Sikeston; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry and Nancy Thrower of Columbia, Jerry Thrower of Lake Almanor, Calif., and Michael and Shelley Thrower of Las Vegas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elmina and Duke Iseley of Tulsa, Okla., and Flora Bell Ray and Chuck Webber of Rouseville, Pa.; and seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ponder Funeral Chapel in Sikeston where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Larry Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Jim Newman, Duane Anderson, Cody Anderson, Dennis Thrower, Steve Fair and David Cox.

Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Newman, Jamie Newman and Ben Newman.
