SPRINGFIELD - A Springfield murder suspect may be hiding out in Southeast Missouri, according to law enforcement officials.

Springfield Police are searching for Travis D. Mack, 28, who is charged with first degree murder for the April 27 shooting death of Kenneth Dixon Jr. of Springfield.

According to Springfield Police Department Public Information Officer Angela Burgess, authorities believe Mack has family in the Sikeston or Hayti area. He may be trying to stay here out of sight of authorities, she said.

Mack is wanted for a incident which occurred around 11:59 p.m. April 27 when Springfield Police officers were dispatched to a report of a man shot in the 400 block of South Patton. Upon arrival officers found the 26-year-old Dixon lying on the sidewalk and unresponsive.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced Dixon dead at the scene. An autopsy was performed by the Greene County medical examiner, who found that Dixon died as the result of a gunshot wound.

Two eye-witnesses have come forward, enabling Springfield Police detectives to present a case to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office, who charged Mack with first degree murder.

As of press time today, Mack remains at large and the Springfield Police Department requests the help of any citizen who knows where he might be found.

Concerned citizens may call 417-864-1810 with information, or callers may remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers at 869-TIPS. Calls to Crime Stoppers bring with them the potential for rewards up to $1,000.

Those who believe they have seen Mack in Southeast Missouri are urged to call their local law enforcement.

"We encourage the public not to contact him (Mack). He is considered armed and dangerous. They should leave it to the local authorities to make contact with him," Burgess said.
