CAPE GIRARDEAU - Jewell W. Perry, 84, formerly of Scott City, died May 21, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Born Jan. 2, 1920, in Burkburnett, Texas, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Caroline Knight Williams. She grew up in the home of her foster parents, Thomas L. and Mona Hodges, in Samos. A graduate of Charleston High School, she attended Southeast Missouri State University and later taught school in rural Mississippi County. In later years, she and her husband, Fred Perry, owned and operated the southern district franchise of ServiceMaster in Cape Girardeau, until retirement. She was a member of Christian Faith Fellowship Church in Cape Girardeau.
She first married Clyde Smoot, and he preceded her in death in 1976. Later, in Paris, Tenn., she married Fred Perry, who preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1986.
Survivors include: one brother, Jack Williams of Florida; one foster brother, James Curtis Hodges of Sikeston; and three stepsons, Don Perry, Aaron Perry and Dennis Perry.
No visitation is scheduled. Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Cape County Park Cemetery and Mausoleum. The Rev. Mark Carbaugh of the Christian Faith Fellowship Church in Cape Girardeau officiated.
