EAST PRAIRIE - Bertha May Love Smith Treadwell, 84, of East Prairie died at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 11, 2004, at the East Prairie Nursing Center.

Born Dec. 30, 1920, in Kentucky to the late Charlie and Pearl Love, she lived most of her life in Mississippi County where she owned and operated a store near the Windyville community near East Prairie. She lived in Mulkeytown, Ill., for several years before returning three years ago to East Prairie, where she was a member of the First Church of God of East Prairie.

She was first married to William Brice Smith, who preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1964. In December 1968, she married James Delmer Treadwell, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Ruby Smith and James and Mildred Smith of East Prairie; three stepsons, Don and Larry Treadwell of Bakersfield, Calif., and J.D. Treadwell of Cape Girardeau; one stepdaughter, Bonnie Lindsey of Sikeston; and five grandchildren, 13 stepgrandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 22 great-stepgrandchildren and two great-great-stepgrandchildren.

Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday. Rob Kespelher and Carl Addison will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Harry Brack, Thad Hutchason, Charlie Keene, Gary Dewrock, Randy Lueder and Steve Felter.
