DEXTER - Charles McGowen, 82, died July 28, 2005, at his home near Dexter.
Born July 19, 1923, in Dunklin County, son of the late Thomas W. and Bertha Jackson McGowen, he was a former member of Sugar Tree General Baptist Church in Dexter where he had served as a deacon, a former welder at Arvin Automotive in Dexter, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
On Jan. 26, 1943, at Malden, he married Myrtle A. Carter who preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 2001.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence H. McGowen, Ralph B. McGowen, and two in infancy.
Survivors include: three sisters, Verlia Lawrence of Iuka, Ill., and Thelma Brown and Shirley Carwile of Dexter; two brothers, Thomas McGowen of Dexter and Carroll McGowen of Selmer, Tenn.; and by a special great-niece, Carla Sue Harris of the home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Dean Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
