DONIPHAN - The Sikeston girls basketball team opened the season on a losing note by falling at Doniphan, 61-46 on Monday night.

Sikeston got 25 points out of junior Whitney McCray but no other player reached double figures.

Doniphan's superior depth wore down the Lady Bulldogs.

"I thought they had a real good game plan," said Sikeston coach Lee Brooks. "They live for basketball in Doniphan and they are always tough. They saw that we were short on personnel and they ran three or four at us off the bench and wore us down. We ran out of gas."

Sikeston led 9-4 after one quarter and trailed 22-19 at the half.

But Doniphan blew the game open in the second half, out-scoring the Lady Bulldogs 39-27.

Paige Silverthorn followed up with seven points for Sikeston.

Doniphan was led by Hailee Deckard with 22 points. Morgan Davis followed up with 12 points.

Sikeston will play at Dexter on Thursday.

Sikeston's junior varsity lost to Doniphan 58-30 to fall to 1-4 on the season. Martika Davis led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points.

The Tigers made 39 out of a whopping 57 attempts. Clarkton was 24-of-36 from the line.

The two teams combined for 64 fouls.

Risco was led by Andrew Halford and Bryce Earnhart with 23 points each. Dustin Patterson followed up with 15 points.

Steven White led Clarkton with 34 points.

"I was really pleased with the way we came out of the gates," said Risco coach Brandon Blankenship. "Halford, Patterson and Earnhart really carried the offensive load for us. I thought our intensity level was right where it needed to be. They really impressed me tonight. Getting that many guys in the scoring column is what we like to see every night."
