MALDEN -- August John Andrew Mekan, 84, died Feb. 27, 2008, at the Malden Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 2, 1923, at Bernie, son of the late August John Fred and Ollie Bell Grim Mekan, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He retired from Union Electric of St. Louis and was of the Assembly of God belief.
Survivors include: three brothers, Doyle Mekan of Arnold, Donald Mekan of St. Charles and Gene Mekan of Bernie; and three sisters, Vivian Aungst of Scottsdale, Ariz., Wanda Stephens of Gilbert, Ariz., and Doris Glass of Bernie.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Randolph Mekan.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ivan Mekan will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery in rural Dexter.
