SIKESTON - Effective June 25, the work force at the Sikeston Power Station will be reduced by 17 employees, according to E.R. "Dick" Inman, director of municipal utilities. Inman blamed a lack of electrical demand for the layoff.

ANNA, Ill. - Wins over New Madrid and Anna gave the Sikeston American Legion team the championship of a four-team tournament here Saturday. Phillip Carnell fanned 10 and allowed seven hits in a 3-1 win over New Madrid in the first game. Then, Brian Becker threw a two-hitter as Sikeston ripped Anna, 11-0.
SAN ANTONIO - Airman James L. Backfisch has graduated from Air Force Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Harold J. and Brenda Backfisch of Benton, Mo., and is a 1988 graduate of Thomas W. Kelly High School.
