NEW MADRID -- Five people were injured in two separate, but related accidents Friday evening.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports at 5:40 p.m., on New Madrid County Interstate 55, one mile north of New Madrid, an accident occurred as a vehicle driven by Dramel L. Jones, 17, of Charleston, was stopped in the roadway, and a vehicle driven by Gary Hartwell, 45, of Poplar Bluff, was also stopped in the roadway when the vehicle driven by Donald W. Berry, 64, of Centralia, Ill., struck Hartwell's vehicle. Hartwell's vehicle then struck Jones' vehicle.
As Berry's vehicle was stopped in the roadway, another accident occurred as a southbound vehicle driven by Alan G. Glaes, 50, of Sikeston, struck Berry's vehicle.
After receiving minor injuries, Berry was transported by ambulance to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
Hartwell and his passenger, Loretta Baker, 54, of Portageville, also sustained minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Glaes and his passenger, Linda M. Glaes, 50, of Sikeston, both received moderate injuries and were taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
CHARLESTON -- A Wyatt resident received serious injuries following a one-vehicle accident Friday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports at 1:15 p.m. in Mississippi County on Highway D, five miles south of Charleston, Melanie J. Davis, 55, of Wyatt, was driving her vehicle westbound when her vehicle struck a patch of ice. Davis then lost control of her vehicle causing her to strike a bridge railing before striking an embankment.
Davis' passenger and mother, Essie L. Mullins, 83, sustained serious injuries and was air evacuated to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
ESSEX -- A two-vehicle accident resulted in minor injuries for two Essex residents Friday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 1:45 p.m., in Stoddard County on MO-114 at MO-153, three miles east of Essex, an accident occurred as a southbound vehicle driven by Billie G. Ledbetter, 68, of Essex, failed to yield after stopping and struck the vehicle driven by Justin W. Wheeler, 23, of Essex, in the intersection.
Ledbetter and Wheeler's passenger, Kimberly D. Wheeler, 27, were transported by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
