Robert Hency
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Rev. Robert Dean Hency, 75, died at 9:10 a.m. Feb. 18, 2002, at his home.
Born Aug. 2, 1926, in Oran, son of the late Elmer and Elba Simmons Hency Sr., he retired as a bookkeeper for Construction Local Union 282 in Cape Girardeau. He owned Dean's Grocery in Oran, Mo., and worked for Holden Psychiatric Institute in Springdale until November 2000. The Baptist minister served as pastor of the Commerce Baptist Church for 16 years before retiring and was a petty officer with the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War.
On July 1, 1950, he married Gwanda June Yokley who preceded him in death on Sept. 24, 1996.
Survivors include: one son, Robert Hency of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two daughters, Shauna Holden of Springdale and Ladeana Hency of Bentonville; three brothers, Gerald "Red" Hency of Granite City, Ill., Doyle Hency of O'Fallon, Mo., and Bill Hency of Oran; one sister, Opal Dennis of Oran; and five grandchildren.
One grandchild and one brother also preceded him in death.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Oran with Dr. Rodney Goodsell and Dr. Donnie Holden officiating.
Military graveside rites will be conducted at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Holden and Jacob Hency.
