Sophia Martinez
SIKESTON - Sophia Martinez, 73, died May 19, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born April 10, 1929, in Converse, Texas, daughter of the late Crecenio and Yisdar Garcia Guzman, she was a housekeeper at the Bear County (Texas) Hospital before retiring.
Her husband, Jessie Joseph Sauceda, preceded her in death on April 3, 2002.
Survivors include: five sons, Robert Guzman, Fidel "Peppe" Sauceda, Danny Sauceda, Joseph Sauceda Jr. and Johnny Sauceda of Sikeston; three daughters, Mary Jane Berry of Conroe, Texas, and Juanita Terry and Ellie Sauceda of Sikeston; three brothers, Arnold Guzman and Raymond Guzman of Oran and Margarito Guzman of Morley; four sisters, Alberta Martinez of Sister, Texas, Delores Rosa of Lubbock, Texas, Hope Fuentes of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Sarah Miller of Sikeston; and 41 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Rudy Martinez and Michael Sauceda; one brother Narcicio Guzman; and four sisters, Olivia Rodrigez, Pauline Turner, Catherine Sexton and Dora Morgan.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Jerry Adams, pastor of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the New Morley Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Sam Sisco, Donal Turner, David Terry Jr., John Henson, Jeremy Perrien and Jackie Hays.
Danny Ware will serve as honorary pallbearer.
