BENTON -- James E. "Eddie" Brewer Sr., 64, died Dec. 3, 2002, at his home, following an extended illness.

Born Oct. 2, 1938, in Mathews, son of Viola Mae Ditto Brewer of Sikeston and the late James Osby Brewer, he was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Benton. He was a lifelong farmer in the Sikeston and Benton areas, where he raised crops, cattle and horses. Brewer was an award-winning calf team roper and member of the Scott County Sheriff's Posse and Sikeston Eagles Aerie 3319.

On June 14, 1959, in Portageville, he married Elizabeth Ann Higdon who survives of the home.

Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: one daughter and son-in-law, Terry Brewer-Cheatham and Mark Cheatham of Sikeston; two sons and daughters-in-law, James E. and Emma Brewer Jr. of Mustang, Okla., and Fred and Tina Higdon of New Hamburg; one sister and her husband, Irma and Lan Coots of Advance; one brother and his wife, John Marion and Margie Brewer of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister-in-law and her husband, Peggy and Luke Boyette of Sikeston; one brother-in-law and his wife, William "Dub" and Pat Higdon of Sikeston; five grandchildren, Jared Brewer-Juden, Jamie Brewer, Katie Brewer, Joy Reinagel and Jacob Reinagel; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Unity Baptist Church in Benton. The Rev. Dennis Lowe, pastor, and the Rev. Dale Huff, former pastor of the church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Joe Moore, Richard Evans, Jimmy Dale Thomas, Brian Livingston, Danny Cox and Kevin Pobst.
