SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Sigmund Arbaugh received a Purple Heart medal Monday awarded to their son, Cpl. Harry Roger Arbaugh, for wounds received in enemy action on the Palau group.

SIKESTON - Clem Beal, vice president of the First National Bank in Sikeston, has just returned from the Nebraska Center for Continuing Education, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where he has attended and completed the 1965 session of the School of Basic Banking. The school is a week-long session designed to cover all of the basic aspects of the banking profession.

EAST PRAIRIE - The franchise agreement between the city and Cable World Inc. of Sikeston was approved with the adoption of an ordinance during Thursday evening's regular city council session. Cable World will not pay the city a 5 percent franchise fee on the total package offered to subscribers including the optional channels of HBO and Cinemax. The rate had been reduced to 3 percent in August 1973.

CHARLESTON - Was it a bird? Was it a plane? Was it a meteorite? Nobody really knows. Two reports or a burning aircraft to the Charleston Department of Public Safety - the first at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday - were relayed to the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department. A search of the area was conducted through to the next morning but nothing ever turned up.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bulldogs finished what they started. The Bulldogs opened the varsity boys basketball season ranked No. 1 in southeast Missouri and now, they finish in the top spot for the first time in history. Sikeston's record this season was 24-5.
