Call 471-6636

When is Sikeston going to get smart and start making a law against littering? Our street has litter from where they throw it out the windows of cars. And then the residents have to go out and pick it up from their yards and driveways and it's terrible. I remember when there was a $500 fine for littering. They had signs up all over town and you didn't see litter all over the streets like you do today. It's time Sikeston did something about it.

I deeply resented Ron Clutts' statement at the end of the Gideon games when he said where the subs were not starters for the Bulldogs. If they had more playing time they might be better players and could be starters. I am not a parent of a Bulldog, either.

I have been looking all over for someone who sell striking clocks that strike on the hour and half-hour. If you know someone, call (573) 887-3040. If there's no answer, please leave a message and I'll call you back.

John Ashcroft, our present attorney general, swore under oath in his confirmation hearings that his religious beliefs would not carry over into his duty as attorney general. What did he just do? He spent $8,000 of taxpayers' money to put a curtain over the Spirit of Justice Lady because she had one breast exposed. What would he do if Michaelangelo's "David" came to America? Would he cut off something, or cover it? If counterparts in Afghanistan blew up images they didn't like, is that what he has planned before he leaves office for the Spirit of Justice Lady in the Justice Department? I think his actions are hypocritical.

In the Jan. 29 article, the Associated Press erroneously reported that ABC News had said Ashcroft ordered the statues covered. The ABC report said the network had been tipped that Ashcroft had given the order, however, ABC also said it could not be confirmed that Ashcroft had issued the order and that someone else in his office had.

I just wonder where the ACLU is on Charter Television, charging all of the residents in Sikeston who have basic television for two Christian stations where they want them or not. They're having to pay for this. Where are they? They opposed a city in Louisiana for having a Christian sign outside the city limits. Wonder where they are here.

Mike, this is about your Jan. 30 editorial, "Illegal immigration poses big problem." It's not just the illegals either. It's just that they're letting all of them come over here. It's time to stop it. It's OK to let a few visit, but not to stay. We already have an overpopulation problem already and can't take care of our own without all the excess of other countries pushing their people over on us, especially when they don't want to abide by our laws, speak our language and deal with our American citizens. They bring their crimes over here.

Does anyone know if it's legal for the bank to charge for cashing income tax checks, up to 5 percent? That's an outrageous price to pay just to cash a check.
