Bessie Sneed
MARYLAND HEIGHTS - Bessie Genevieve Sneed, 89, formerly of Chaffee and Scott City, died Oct. 1, 2002, at the Broadview Nursing Home in Maryland Heights.
Born Jan. 27, 1913, in Charleston, daughter of the late Samuel Benjamin and Mary Magdalene Brown Thompson, she owned and operated Paladora and Sneed's Drive-In before retiring. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City and the Council of Catholic Women, she was also a member of VFW Post 6407 Ladies Auxiliary and retired from the Senior Volunteer Program.
On May 22, 1936, in Scott City, she married William Robert "Bob" Sneed who preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1980.
Survivors include: two brothers, Elbert Thompson of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Harold Thompson of St. Ann.
Five brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, where parish prayers are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. David Coon officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Scott City.
