Ernest Briggs

SENATH - Ernest Darrell "Squeaky" Briggs, 84, died May 2, 2002, at NHC Healthcare in Kennett.

Born Sept. 25, 1917, in Gates, Tenn., son of the late Ernest and Nora Beatrice Sloan Briggs, he served with the U.S. Army in England and France during World War II and was awarded the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry in Action. Briggs was fire chief for the City of Senath for 30 years and member of Barnes, Casinger, Montgomery American Legion and the Senath First Baptist Church.

On June 5, 1938, in Hayti, he married Lois Briggs who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Davis of Little Rock, Ark., and Vicky and John Svoboda of Victoria, Texas; two sisters, Edna Earl Penny of Kennett and Evelyn Warf of Sikeston; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

One sister, Juanita Rose Briggs, preceded him in death.

Services were conducted Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Senath with the Rev. Doug Clinton and the Rev. Derek Combs officiating.

Burial followed in the Senath Cemetery.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Senath was in charge of arrangements.
